Granuband is expanding and building towards a sustainable future

We have received the green light to significantly increase the rubber processing capacity on our business park and commence the construction of a brand-new production and storage hall. These crucial milestones represent significant steps in our mission to process worn-out car tyres in the most responsible manner possible, while simultaneously meeting the growing demand for circular solutions.

Permits for Expansion and Construction

Granuband is expanding both in length and width. The Environmental Service North Sea Canal Area has recently issued two final decisions that have a significantly positive impact on promoting the sustainable processing of discarded rubber.

Firstly, a permit has been granted to substantially increase the volume of rubber processing on our business park, from 30,000 tons to 50,000 tons per year. This is a major milestone in realizing our growth ambitions to make a greater contribution to the high-quality processing of the increasing number of discarded vehicle tyres.

The second decision pertains to the permit for the construction of a new production and storage hall on our business park, enabling us to manufacture more circular rubber products from the tyres we collect. The new hall provides an additional 2500 square meters of floor space and will be equipped with advanced robotics, increasing our production capacity by a third. These investments allow us to not only enhance efficiency and respond flexibly to the growing demand for circular rubber products but also improve labour conditions through automation.

Positive developments that we were eagerly awaiting! The vacant land next to our current factory has been excavated, and the temporary construction entrance has been established. Soon, we will commence with pile driving: we cannot wait to lay the first foundation!

Crucial Moment

Marco Alderlieste, General Manager of Granuband, emphasizes the urgency of these decisions: “The green light for our expansion and new construction on the business park comes at a crucial moment. In the coming years, we expect even more end-of-life tyres on the market, while the government’s 2050 goals call for a transition to a circular economy where waste no longer exists. To realize these ambitions, there is still much to be gained in our industry.”
