GRANUBAND: RECYCLING TYRES IN THE PORT OF AMSTERDAM
Granuband was founded in 1991 by entrepreneur Maarten van Randeraat. The company now has over 90 employees and is located in the Port of Amsterdam, a part of the Westelijk Havengebied (Western Port Area) of the Dutch capital, where recycling is being taken to the next level.
Granuband was one of the first automotive tyre-recycling companies in the Netherlands and, probably, even in Europe. Initially, the company focused solely on recycling. Used tyres were delivered, sorted and then shredded. Later, the company started making products itself from the rubber granulate recovered from the shredded tyres. In 1995 Granuband launched its first rubber tile for public spaces in the Netherlands. Since then, our portfolio has expanded considerably and become much more detailed. Granuband supplies recycled, or circular, rubber products under the brand name Granuflex to a growing number of customers, both inside and outside the Netherlands.
OUR MISSION STATEMENT: IT’S A NEW LIFE
The world faces challenges. The planet is warming up and raw materials are becoming increasingly scarce. At the same time, more cars are using more and more tyres.
In the Netherlands alone, millions of tyres are discarded every year. These contribute to mountains of black rubber that would be detrimental to our living environment if nothing were to be done about it.
A pioneer sees opportunities, as opposed to challenges. Which is why Granuband has been making environmentally friendly products from end-of-life car, tractor and truck tyres since 1995, giving old rubber a new – high-quality – lease of life.
Because we carry out the complete process ourselves – from tyre collection to production – our customers can count on high-quality circular products that meet the most stringent environmental and safety requirements. We take our responsibility very seriously, because we want future generations to be able to live on a planet that’s as clean as possible.
Circularity is the road to new life. For both products and people.
And it feels good…
THE COLLECTION AND RECYCLING OF USED TYRES
We give every used tyre a useful and sustainable new lease of life. First of all we ascertain the quality. Tyres that still have a good profile can be re-used in their current form. Tyres that don’t make the grade are processed into new, circular products, such as stable tiles, fitness-centre floors, terrace tiles or drainage surfaces, such as for roof gardens, for example.
